• A three letter word and another lesson learned •
It happens often. You fall for the person you wouldn’t expect. The warning signs fade as your feelings disregard your mindset. Every quirky moment, secret shared, and passionate kiss pull you in a little deeper. If you’re lucky he’ll tell you he feels the same way, and if you’re luckier he’ll actually mean it. If you’re further blessed he’ll want to be with you. And if you’re me, that has yet to happen. I’ve hit another dead-end on the romance road, but this time my viewpoint is different. I could resent him for leading me on and regret ever getting involved; or I can admire the worthwhile past year he gave me, and thank him for what I’m walking away with.
• I thank him for building me up.
I’ve come a long way from that awkward, unsure girl. Through getting to know him, I found more of myself. I grew comfortable and confident. While his presence fades, my dignity remains.
• I thank him for making me feel.
Through caring for him my emotions prevailed– emotions I forgot had existed. I’m no longer afraid to let something so beautiful in, even if it yields disappointment in the end.
• I thank him for knocking me down.
I lay here bruised, yet stronger. The hurt from not being good enough heals, as I reach for improvement. I’m piecing my life together– perfecting every ounce. His absence is just a motivator.
• I thank him for choosing her.
By doing so, he paves the way for what I actually deserve. I’m more than a second option. In letting me go, he allows my worth to be fully appreciated by someone else.
I thank him for the smiles and our little adventure, in hopes that it meant something to him as well.
